I'd try doing a version with the red as shadows of the actual letters, and have them breaking in a different manner. =) It might be something fun.

I was actually going to do that, but there isn't a perspective tool that I know of in Illustrator :|

Mirror the text, convert to outlines, and just shrink. =) You can always change perspective by the direct selection tool once they're in outlines.
