Life and all kinds of other stuff happen. I've been busy with work, family and many other things that have just become a higher priority than my art (if you haven't noticed this has been my first journal in over a year).
What I want to say is that I've been working as a full-time programmer so my art has suffered over this last year. I've not really touched photoshop for over 6 months, something I regret but is just the case.
Maybe I'll come back to typography, photography or photomanipulation but I can't guarantee that. The best I can do is continue to support the ones I've been watching for all this time and all the amazing work being put out by them.
So keep at it!

Vietnam Photos

Currently I'm in Ho Chi Minh city on a business trip, but I've gotten to go around and take pictures (ofc I've been taking pictures any chance I get). I have narrowed down my pics so far to about 100+ and I still have a week left to take pictures if I get more chances. Saigon has a lot in variety in it. So many different things jam packed into one place that there's always something interesting around every corner. I'll get to narrowing down my selections a bit more and upload them ASAP. This will be a big upload after a long drought of photos on my part.

Life, Anime Expo 2012 and Arizona Trip

So this past week was the first real vacation I had from work. I've been nailing stuff out for 8 months straight and finally got a bit of a break from all the hustle and bustle of a new startup. But before I go into that I'll give you some information on what exactly it is I do and where I'm at in my life. I feel it is long overdue since I've been really inactive here for the past few years.
Right now my family is in a pretty big transition. We are juggling houses, my brother having moved to Northern California, me looking to move out as well, my sister and her new endevours as well as her daughter and finally my grandparents and that whole bit. There is a ton of stuff floating around in the family pool of issues that things are really starting to really hit me. It is a lot for not only my parents but my siblings to deal with and I hope that when decisions are made they turn out to be the right ones.
Anyways, work.
I've been working at a new company titled Vehicle Inventory Network doing web design and development for a few months now. I used to hate coding but have grown to enjoy it as a result of this high pressure job. I'm essentially a one man army having put out (admittedly poor quality) eight websites and worked heavily on the branding and image of the company. As a result of being part of something new, I've been put into a position of not only great freedom and challenge but one that is filled with responsibility, risk and consequence. It is quite the wake up call coming into work and knowing that anything wrong is on you and there's no one to tell you how to fix it. Thus leading to my wonderful title of "Director of Web Design and Development".
That being said this is a great opportunity to open up my life to my dreams and ambitions early. If the company is successful then I will have a great foundation to fill my life with things that aren't just stale routines or working from paycheck to paycheck. I can explore the world and do what I want with my life.
You can kinda see that I'm in a tight spot with both my job and my family. Lots of new things, lots of decisions to make and a whole heck of a lot of pressure that I do the right thing (not to mention fighting my tendency to avoid new, strange things in the process).
And now to my week off. First I took some college friends to our place in Arizona off the Colorado river. We had a great time up there watching movies, playing some Pathfinder and using the boat to relax and or destroy ourselves. My Dad was particularly harsh on me with the tube, hehe. It was also nice to hang out with my Dad a bit and shoot some of his guns (did it without telling my friends but I think my Dad appreciated the alone time, and hopefully they are ok with that). Shot a 45 auto short barrel pistol. Pretty difficult to shoot straight with it.
After that I came home, relaxed and got ready for AX. Certainly the most packed I have ever seen the LA Convention Center. As was the case last year prices were pretty high for most of the stuff in the exhibition hall, but the panels this year were pretty fantastic. Egoraptor, Danny Choo and Steve Blum had some fantastic panels. The organization was a bit poor, though, resulting in many missed autograph sessions. Overall the experience was good and I was able to barter down most of the stuff I got by $10-$20. The best purchase I made was probably the Bleach figurine (Halibel) which I got for $95 and two days later at the same booth it had jumped to $170. I'll be uploading the image soon as well, which are fairly poor quality due to being taken on my Android. I really need to get a hold of a DSLR for this thing cause it pains me to know how to take good pictures but not be able to
. So many blurry photos, overexposed shots, etc.
Anyways, that's an overall update on what's been up. I'll try to get some more photography and typography work going for you guys to see, but my time has been split between work, games and people and there is barely enough room for those three things let alone random artistic endeavors. Perhaps tonight I'll try and iron some stuff out, although I am currently brooding on some cool ideas for game mechanics for my game designer freinds to execute. I'll update you guys on that if/when it comes to fruition.
